The Kontio Knife is available as two versions: one with an exceptionally sharp carbon steel blade, and another with a maintenance-free stainless steel blade. This version features a 15 cm carbon steel blade with excellent performance characteristics. The handle is made from lacquered heat-treated birch.
The upper bolster is cast in bronze in the shape of a bear’s head. The sheath is made of dark brown leather with a brass clamp at the top. The blade of this knife is shaped similarly to the Leuku Knife, though slightly shorter. The heavy bronze bear's head helps balance the knife, placing the center of gravity near the middle.
When you pull out the Kontio Knife by the campfire, your hunting companions are sure to take the message without needing to say a word!
Total length of the sheathed knife is 31 cm, the knife itself is 27 cm long, while the blade is 15 cm.
The carbon steel blade requires a bit of care. It should always be cleaned and dried after use, and a layer of oil will best protect it from corrosion. We recommend leaving the knife outside the sheath for a day or two after use to allow both the blade and sheath to dry properly.
Before the knife leaves the factory, we coat the blade with tar-scented CRC Sisu protective oil. Similar products like WD-40 and CRC 5-56 work just as well. If you're handling food with the knife, it's best to protect the blade with food-grade oil, such as sunflower oil. However, food oils are not suitable for long-term storage, as they become sticky over time.
