The Poromiehenleuku (“reindeer herder’s knife”) is the largest knife in our Lapland collection. This knife, made with a stainless steel blade, features a polished finish and a lacquered birch burl handle. The blade is adorned with etched patterns inspired by Sámi themes.
The leuku is a suitable tool for larger tasks, such as clearing brush and cutting firewood. It is not designed for carving but serves well as a heavy-duty tool for chopping and splitting wood.
The knife is secured with rivets through the handle and onto the blade's tang, with the rivets reinforced by a TIG-welded steel plate to ensure the blade stays firmly in place. The attachment is hidden by a nickel-silver bolster soldered to the end of the handle.
The sheath is made of vegetable-tanned cowhide, featuring Sámi-inspired patterns. It is available in two colors: traditional natural light or dark brown. The sheath includes a belt loop that tightens with the weight of the leuku, ensuring it stays securely in place.
Due to its weight, the leuku is not ideal for carrying on long hikes. If you prefer more tool-like features over easy maintenance, the Poromiehenleuku is also available with a carbon steel blade and an oiled handle.
The blade measures 19 cm, with an overall length of 30 cm.
The stainless steel Poromiehenleuku is also available as part of the Double Leuku Stainless set, which pairs it with the Jätkänvuolu as a larger knife option.
RESTRICTIONS: This knife cannot be delivered to JAPAN due to local restrictions (blade is over 15 cm).
