The Argentum knife’s handle is crafted from this rare galalith, a material that is no longer in production. Unlike the current larger Ball Pommel models made with brass fittings, the Argentum knife's upper and lower bolsters, as well as the tip of the sheath, are made from silver. These silver parts were leftover from the production of the Iisakki Järvenpää Company’s 100th-anniversary knife series, which also featured the ball pommel design but had a birch-bark handle. Knife No. 1 of that series was presented to Finnish President Urho Kekkonen in 1979.
The silver collar on the Argentum knife’s sheath is newly crafted. The belt loop, complete with a chain lock, is hand-twisted from silver wire, precisely replicating the design of the 1910 model. The lower bolster, sheath tip, and collar are all decorated with traditional designs, hand-engraved using a small metal engraving tool known as a "tikkeli".
The silver parts made in 1979 are marked with the stamp "Ve," as at that time the knife factory did not have its own hallmark, and the parts were stamped by a jeweler in Seinäjoki. These parts also feature the crown inspection mark, a silver content mark of 830, and a date mark of B8, indicating the year 1979. The new silver parts bear the hallmark "IJO," representing Iisakki Järvenpää Osakeyhtiö (Company), and are stamped with a silver purity mark of 925. The belt loop is additionally marked with the text "KÄSITYÖ" which is Finnish for "handcrafted".
Each Argentum knife comes with a certificate of authenticity, attesting to the unique materials, craftsmanship, and history behind the piece.
