The DC Association was established to preserve DC-3 aircraft and the knowledge related to it in Finland. The DC-3 OH-LCH flies the association's members approximately 50 hours every year, both domestically and internationally. The aircraft is owned by Airveteran Oy, and operated and maintained by the DC Association. More information can be found at www.dc-ry.fi.
The Jahti Scout Knife was chosen as the base for our official DC Knife due to its many connections to the DC-3 aircraft. The DC-3 is considered by many to be "the finest airplane ever to be built by man." The Jahti Scout Knife's blade design was originally inspired by the Bowie knife from the American Civil War era.
The knife's fittings are made of aluminum, just like the DC-3. The designs of both the knife and the plane date back to similar periods and have remained globally popular for decades.
The knife, handcrafted in Kauhava, features a polished 15 cm carbon steel blade. The handle is made from individually stacked leather discs that have been shaped, polished, and lacquered. The upper bolster of the knife is an aluminum hook, a signature element of Scout knives, while the lower bolster, which also serves as a finger guard, is pressed from aluminum sheet.
The sheath is made of hand-stitched light Finnish tanned leather, treated traditionally with vegetable oils. It includes a steel reinforcement at the tip. At the mouth of the sheath, a steel plate is riveted with the engraved registration code of the DC-3 aircraft, OH-LCH, maintained by the DC Association, resembling the aircraft's identification plate. The sheath is also embossed with a front view of the DC-3 plane, the text "DC-ry," and the old Aero Oy logo, which the association has permission to use.
The DC Knife is crafted in honor of fine old machines, tools, traditions, and the people dedicated to preserving them.
