Iisakki Järvenpää Company has a long tradition of making kitchen knives, forks, and other utensils, but production of all these items was halted by the end of the 1970s. Altogether, there were about 30 different kitchen knife models, each named after their purpose: meat knives, pastry knives, bread knives, and so on. These models featured a variety of handle shapes, with or without bolsters, and in different blade lengths.
We've revived two of these models, one of which is this bread knife, originally called a pastry knife. Nowadays, a bread knife seems more fitting for everyday use than a pastry knife.
The handle is made from mahogany, with both the handles and blade blanks sourced from old 1970s stock. The blade is crafted from 1.2 mm thick stainless steel, staying true to the original design, and the handle is lacquered just as it was in the past. Due to the lacquered finish, the knife is not dishwasher-safe!
The blade features a serrated edge, ground with a sharpening stone to match the original model. The blade length is 17 cm, with a total knife length of 28 cm. The bread knife can also be purchased as part of the Cook Boys set, along with the matching butcher's knife.
Both knives come in a box that also doubles as a gift package.
