Iisakki Järvenpää Company has been crafting various kitchen knives, forks, and cutlery for decades, though production of these items ceased by the late 1970s.
In total, there were about 20 different kitchen knife models, named in old catalogs as Meat Knives, Pastry Knives, Bread Knives, etc. These models were made with a variety of handle designs, some with lower bolsters, some without, and in various blade lengths. We have revived two of these models, one of which has been named the "Butcher’s Knife" in accordance with its original name, although it is versatile enough for general kitchen use.
The handle is made from mahogany, with blanks sourced from old 1970s stock. The blades are pressed using the original tools, maintaining the traditional blade shape. We are often asked why the blade tip has such an unusual shape compared to typical designs. One could probably come up with several interesting stories, but the truth is that the reason for this design has never been recorded, so we no longer know the original intent. Nevertheless, it must be a good design, as it has been produced and sold in this form for over 50 years.
The blade is made from 1.2 mm thick stainless steel, following the original model, and the handle is lacquered as it was before. Due to the lacquered finish, the knife is not dishwasher-safe!
The blade length is 16 cm, and the total length of the knife is 27 cm. The Meat Knife can also be purchased as part of a set along with a Bread Knife featuring the same handle. These kitchen knives are delivered in a box that also functions as a gift package.
