One of the most renowned and sought-after products from Iisakki Järvenpää Osakeyhtiö is the Helahoito set, consisting of the Double Härmä Knife and a Helavyö belt. It is available in traditional red/brass and the rarer black/nickel silver variations.
The handles of the knives are made from birch and painted black, and the blades are made of polished carbon steel. The metal parts of the knives, sheath, and belt are crafted from nickel silver. The smaller knife (Junki) has a 6 cm blade, while the larger one features a 10 cm blade.
For decades, this example of Kauhava craftsmanship has been one of our most popular knife models. The production of these knives, their sheath, and the belt involves several meticulous hours of handwork. The engravings on the fittings are hand-carved using a technique called "tikkelöinti".
For example, the belt’s fittings are still twisted from wire and sawn by hand. Each fitting is individually mounted on the belt, not too tightly but just enough to produce a pleasing jingle. This traditional method has always been used.
The belt can easily be adjusted to the desired length by removing fittings – 115 cm is ample for most individuals. Longer belts are available upon special order.
