Ideal for summer grill parties or winter candlelit dinners, and perfect for both everyday use and special occasions, the Puukkovakka consists of six steak knives, a detachable holder, and a box.
The steak knives feature polished stainless steel blades. Although they share the same appearance and shape as our other knives, they are designed specifically for dining, being slightly smaller and with a thinner blade. The handle is a traditional model known as "the Hookhead", first introduced in 1921, made from locally sourced curly birch treated with linseed oil.
The knives are kept in place by a detachable holder made from Finnish birch plywood, also treated with linseed oil.
The set is complemented by the "vakka" basket, which can be used for storing the knives or as a beautiful bread basket. The basket is handcrafted in Maalahti by Bo-Åke Ljungars using various materials: the sides are made from willow, the bottom from alder, and the bindings from birch root. The basket is treated with linseed oil.
None of the components are dishwasher safe; the knives, box, and holder must be washed and dried by hand.
The Puukkovakka is available in two other styles to suit different preferences and price points: the Kauhava Steak Knives and the Black Steak Knives in a wooden box. All feature the same blades but differ in handle design, appearance, and storage box.
